Cognitive Dissonance
In this session, Sarah and Jez discuss cognitive dissonance and look at how where you hold conflicting beliefs or where something happens which is the complete opposite of your beliefs, you are unable to process and make sense of what has happened/is happening.
They discuss how this can affect our ability to make decisions and how when things are really uncomfortable it is easier to bury our head in the sand rather than face and deal with whatever is turning our world upside down. Where other people's behaviour causes cognitive dissonance we often end up making excuses for it as we can't believe that they would behave in such a way. They look at when you go inward and listen to your heart more it is easier to see which of your beliefs are no longer your truth and aren't serving you so that you can change/let go of them.
They also discuss how cognitive dissonance is a coping mechanism and that when anything happens outside of what we believe it leads to disease/discomfort within us. Having conflicting views on something is usually an indication that we need to go inward to discover what it is that is making us feel uncomfortable so that we can then address it.
